Join artist Catherine Heard to create an embroidered motif for her powerful, large-scale installation. Over 200 people have already contributed patches to this project. Red Work: The Emperor of Atlantis is a massive patchwork of embroideries based on traditional redwork embroidery. At first glance, viewers see familiar, nostalgic imagery—patriotic scenes, domestic motifs, and fairy tale characters. Camouflaged within this comforting fabric are embroideries depicting war, injustice, and resistance.
All materials and instruction provided.

We invite you to create a small, embroidered motif to add your voice to this compelling project.
You can choose to embroider:
• A historical redwork design 
• A motif from a selection of patterns designed for this work, focusing on modern and historical conflicts, injustices, and resistance movements.

Following the tradition of community quilting, you will sew your initials or signature into your patch, making your contribution individually identifiable in the finished artwork.
