Jewellery Making: Metalsmithing: Rings | Intro | Sat + Sun | Mar 8 + 9 | 9:30am-4:30pm

Description

This is a fun introductory 2-day workshop for those who would like to explore the fabulous world of jewelry making! On the first day you will be shown all the skills needed to make your very own spinner ring, including using a butane torch, stamps, files, and finishing techniques. On the second day you will learn everything you need to make your water cast ring with an enamel accent. Water casting is the art of melting metal to its molten form and then pouring it into water. This shocks the metal, creating spontaneous forms and unusual shapes. 

In this workshop you will learn how to melt fine silver, pour metal into water, and fabrication methods. silver casting grain will be cast into new and wondrous forms. Students will choose their favourite water cast piece and incorporate it into a ring. Once your ring is made, choose your favourite colour of enamel and learn how to add enamel to the inside of your water cast component, and how to torch fire it. 
All precious metals and jewelry-making supplies provided.
